Whither to Simulate or Compile

I’m currently trying to finish a paper on Judea Pearl do-calculus. It’s 99% finished, but the last 1% keeps eluding me.

Recently, I’ve been reminded of the issue of whither to use the word “compile” or “simulate” in quantum computing. So let me rerun a post which I wrote 4 years ago about the matter. (I’ve changed it a little bit, improved it I hope, for this occasion).
